So we are starting the downstairs ... I HATE to say basement because we had a basement in our old home, where you opened a door and went down stairs separated from anything else. It was a finished basement complete with a bedroom, craft room, family/game room and we spent a lot of time there ~ our oldest son moved down there in jr high and stayed through high school ... until we finished the master suite in the attic then he moved back up to the bedroom floor with his brother and sister.  So here our downstairs is open to the rest of the house, you can see through to the outside from the top of the stairs going down because we have a wall of windows down there as well.  We really didn't plan to have a kiddo down there but since we are having to do a switch-a-roo with rooms (I'll explain later) he is moving home soon and will be downstairs. Anyhoo, our downstairs will house our main family room, our middle sons room, a full bath and kitchenette.  I thought it would be fun ...

My Quest for Easy Updates to a Better Laundry Room

So while our wonderful attic re-model that we have embarked upon keeps my husband busy (story here,)in mind it seems that the rest of the house also needs a spruce up too! I haven't touched my sunroom/laundry room for several years (my ADD requires that I change room decor frequently) so I began looking for ideas. Here are few that caught my eye...

Basement Laundry Makeover
Give a country-fresh facelift to a basement laundry room with white paint on the walls and ceiling. Add style and color to a plain concrete floor with tan EpoxyShield Basement Floor Coating from Rust-Oleum. Confetti-like chips add pattern and some traction. The finish resists spills and is easy to clean.

Tight Space
Squeeze a laundry center between two walls. A front-loading washer and dryer make it possible to install a folding counter with plenty of elbowroom. Storage in this tiny space is enhanced by open shelves on the wall.

Curtain Call
If your laundry room is in the open, install a rod and curtain to hide the area when necessary. Add hooks and shelves for storage and hanging options.
Tip: Buy a washer and dryer that stack on top of drawers which can hold laundry supplies or folded clothes.

Custom Made
If the laundry center is out in the open, use built-in shelves to contain everything. This three-piece laundry center consists of shelves on either side of the washer and dryer. Use baskets to hold laundry supplies and clothes. Place a countertop above the shelves to serve as a folding station.
