So we are starting the downstairs ... I HATE to say basement because we had a basement in our old home, where you opened a door and went down stairs separated from anything else. It was a finished basement complete with a bedroom, craft room, family/game room and we spent a lot of time there ~ our oldest son moved down there in jr high and stayed through high school ... until we finished the master suite in the attic then he moved back up to the bedroom floor with his brother and sister.  So here our downstairs is open to the rest of the house, you can see through to the outside from the top of the stairs going down because we have a wall of windows down there as well.  We really didn't plan to have a kiddo down there but since we are having to do a switch-a-roo with rooms (I'll explain later) he is moving home soon and will be downstairs. Anyhoo, our downstairs will house our main family room, our middle sons room, a full bath and kitchenette.  I thought it would be fun ...

Simple Easter Mantel with Topiaries and Wreath
Keep your spring mantel earthy and serene. For the primary decoration, add moss, butterflies, and dragonflies to a grapevine wreath and hang it from a chipped old window with a piece of muslin. Add two moss topiaries flanking the wreath along with cute ceramic bunny figurines and your mantel will scream Spring!

Colorful Spring Mantel with Book-Pages Wreath
Here the wreath is made from rolled-up book pages, secured in layers, and attached to a green artist canvas. Old kitchen cabinet doors flank a simple black mirror on this spring mantel, which is simply decorated with pink and orange tulips in mason jars, a watering can stacked atop a few books, and word artwork. To make a spring banner like this one, cut four 8x12 and four 4x12-inch pieces of patterned paper. Pleat the 8x12 pieces, then pinch in the center and fold in half. Hot-glue the edges together to form a fan. Pleat the 4x12 pieces, and glue them to the fan shapes to complete the circles. Using a die-cut machine or decorative scissors, cut four circles from white cardstock. Mat them with cardstock and then cut in a circle. Use a stencil or die-cutting tool to make colorful letters to spell your message. Punch holes in the circles, string together with twine, and hang.
