Phase 2 of The House Behind The Trees ~ The downstairs #TeelsBuildaHouse

So we are starting the downstairs ... I HATE to say basement because we had a basement in our old home, where you opened a door and went down stairs separated from anything else. It was a finished basement complete with a bedroom, craft room, family/game room and we spent a lot of time there ~ our oldest son moved down there in jr high and stayed through high school ... until we finished the master suite in the attic then he moved back up to the bedroom floor with his brother and sister.  So here our downstairs is open to the rest of the house, you can see through to the outside from the top of the stairs going down because we have a wall of windows down there as well.  We really didn't plan to have a kiddo down there but since we are having to do a switch-a-roo with rooms (I'll explain later) he is moving home soon and will be downstairs. Anyhoo, our downstairs will house our main family room, our middle sons room, a full bath and kitchenette.  I thought it would be fun ...

Host a spooky or elegant Halloween gathering with these fun table settings and decorations......they are sure to impress even the bravest {or scared-est} of guests!

Gather a few of your favorite ghouls for a dinner party where handmade Halloween decor with a macabre twist sets the scene. Using twigs and sticks from the backyard, spray painted black adorned with bats from the dollar store, finish off this tablescape.

Carving pumpkins is one of the most interactive Halloween activities, so throw your own party filled with delicious teats and whimsical decor. Here a playful spider web tablecloth is used as the backdrop and is enhanced with inexpensive paper Halloween fans. Pinterest some Halloween edibles like those shown here and set pumpkins on cake stands to make them the focal point of the table.

Skulls fill this creepy dining room with a black-and-white theme. The table is topped with a gauze table runner and a delicate branch centerpiece that holds skull tea lights. The skull theme is carried through to the buffet table, featuring black candelabras and a mummy skeleton. The bright orange window panels are the only pop of color, which adds a dramatic touch to the space.

You can set a frightening table with minimal items like the one shown here ~ just add a metal skull as the centerpiece, red skull wine glasses and plastic bones on the place settings and you're done. To add more of a scare, hang yellow CAUTION tape on the windows or chairs.

Put a spin on traditional Halloween colors with bright green and lace accents. Attach inexpensive lace to the wall for an over-the-top backdrop, and write Halloween messages on a framed chalkboard. Place cupcakes on black candelabras, add sparkle with green sequins pumpkins  and add inexpensive, easy party favor idea, fill a bright orange bag with Halloween candy and embellish it with lace, a plastic spider and a sticker.

Place a black raven and spray-painted tree branches at the center of her fireplace mantel to represent Edgar Allan Poe's poem The Raven.  Black candleholders and miniature pumpkins give an extra dark touch.

Create an elegant, yet grim centerpiece by filling a three-tier cake stand with various Halloween decor then fill the centerpiece with glittery skulls, bones, spray-painted Christmas ornaments and a silver witch's hat. Place miniature skulls on the plates and use crystal elements on the table like candle holders and wine glasses.
