Phase 2 of The House Behind The Trees ~ The downstairs #TeelsBuildaHouse

So we are starting the downstairs ... I HATE to say basement because we had a basement in our old home, where you opened a door and went down stairs separated from anything else. It was a finished basement complete with a bedroom, craft room, family/game room and we spent a lot of time there ~ our oldest son moved down there in jr high and stayed through high school ... until we finished the master suite in the attic then he moved back up to the bedroom floor with his brother and sister.  So here our downstairs is open to the rest of the house, you can see through to the outside from the top of the stairs going down because we have a wall of windows down there as well.  We really didn't plan to have a kiddo down there but since we are having to do a switch-a-roo with rooms (I'll explain later) he is moving home soon and will be downstairs. Anyhoo, our downstairs will house our main family room, our middle sons room, a full bath and kitchenette.  I thought it would be fun ...

Back to School means Cold and Flu Season ~ Check out these tried and true home ice pop remedies that everyone will love!

Back to School, that time of year when cold and flu viruses will officially come a-knockin’!  When over-the-counter remedies don’t alleviate symptoms, ice pops are a great alternative for soothing sore throats, boosting your immunity, and hydrating your depleted body.

Why Ice Pops Are A Great Alternative

Ice pops can be made from classic cold-battling ingredients. They can help to reduce the swelling of a sore and raw throat (think of it like putting an ice pack on a sprained ankle), and they’re an easy way to keep the patient hydrated.
Whip up a batch of these throat-soothing ice pops the next time you or a loved one is battling a cold or flu:

Throat Soothing Ice Pops

Ingredients:
3 ½ cups water
1-inch piece of ginger, peeled and grated with a microplane
2/3 cup of honey
5 tablespoon lemon (or orange) juice
2 chamomile tea bags
Directions: In a heat-proof bowl or pot, mix together the lemon juice, ginger, honey, and tea bags. Pour boiling water over the top and let steep for 10 minutes. Remove tea bags and strain through cheese cloth or coffee filter. Let sit until mixture has slightly cooled. Pour into ice pop molds and freeze completely.

Elderberry Immune-Boosting Ice Pops

Elderberries are a popular remedy for fighting off the cold and flu. Their antiviral properties pack a powerful punch for your immune system support. When combined with the antibacterial properties of honey, elderberries make the perfect immunity booster. For a quick elderberry ice pop, simply mix a tablespoon of pre-made elderberry syrup (you can find it at most health food stores or online) with a cup of lemonade. Freeze and enjoy! You can also try these elderberry ice pops, packed full of hydrating and immunity-boosting ingredients.
