Phase 2 of The House Behind The Trees ~ The downstairs #TeelsBuildaHouse

So we are starting the downstairs ... I HATE to say basement because we had a basement in our old home, where you opened a door and went down stairs separated from anything else. It was a finished basement complete with a bedroom, craft room, family/game room and we spent a lot of time there ~ our oldest son moved down there in jr high and stayed through high school ... until we finished the master suite in the attic then he moved back up to the bedroom floor with his brother and sister.  So here our downstairs is open to the rest of the house, you can see through to the outside from the top of the stairs going down because we have a wall of windows down there as well.  We really didn't plan to have a kiddo down there but since we are having to do a switch-a-roo with rooms (I'll explain later) he is moving home soon and will be downstairs. Anyhoo, our downstairs will house our main family room, our middle sons room, a full bath and kitchenette.  I thought it would be fun ...

Fun and Festive DIY Valentines Day Decor ... Happy Heart Day!

Thanks to google + pinterest searches for these fab ideas!

A deck of cards becomes a lovely decoration for the Queen of Hearts. This is one of my favoratie DIY valentine garlands.  Grab some festive fabric, ribbons, twine and cards to create this darling piece!

Marshmallows on towers work as a Valentine's Day party centerpiece. Make foam craft cones food safe by covering them in plastic wrap. Cover a 6-inch square at the bottom of the cone with buttercream frosting. Press heart-shape marshmallows closely to minimize gaps; repeat, working your way up to cover the cone. Top cones with a free printable bow from Darcy Miller. Simply tape it to a toothpick and insert into the cone.

Paper hearts star in this colorful piece of handmade Valentine's Day decor. This easy craft project is perfect for making with kids. Simply fold colorful strips of paper into a heart and glue or staple the sides together. Hang them from colorful ribbon and you're done!

String art looks complicated, but it's actually a fun Valentine's Day decor project that comes together quickly (even with kids involved) and makes a great
Valentine's Day gift. Paint a piece of lightweight wood your desired color. Trace a heart shape using a pencil, and stencil the outline of the LOVE or another word of your choosing. Tap thin nails along the lines of the shape and word, spacing them about 1/2 inch apart. Loop a thin yarn or string from nail to nail, across, up and down, and side to side, until you achieve the desired look.

Hang this cheerful gingham-wrapped wreath on the front door or over a headboard. Cute 4 X 2 inches strips of fabric and securely tie them around the wreath form.

A pun and a cute decoration idea, just add stickers! You can add stickers to anything really not just a globe BUT we think this is adorable!

Farmhouse Valentines, its what everyone is talking about!  And how easy is this?!?!  Find some old boards or distress new ones and make some X's and O's!  The heart blocks are adorable too .... use a stamp or red sharpie and draw it yourself!

A vase of water is actually hidden underneath a pile of conversational hearts to create this fun and festive Valentine vase!
